On May 26, Columbia Secondary School won the PSAL Rugby Championship, yet again. Both the boys and the girls teams have won the rugby championship two years in a row. Rugby is also the last sport championship in the school year so it was a great way for all the seniors to say goodbye to CSS by taking home a title.

During the games, both teams showed excellent communication and technical skills that led them to the championship. They endured an undefeated season yet again. In the semi final game, the boys beat Canarise and then Lehmann in the final. Zach Ames, Michael Greene, and Victor Cortes were the try scorers. As for the girls’ team, the try scorers were Mahdia Parker, Jade Greenfield, and Brittnay Crawford.

Many seniors decided to play rugby this year, including Victor Cortes.

“I wanted to try PSAL rugby” said Cortes when talking about his experience. “My time with the team has been amazing. It was an unforgettable feeling scoring in the final and I’ll always have this special memory.”

Other players have been on the team for a few years and truly enjoy it.

Samantha McGann says, “The two years I’ve been on the team have been so great” said Samantha McGann, sophomore. “I’m looking forward to the future and keeping our undefeated record alive. Also I’m so proud of my best friend Mahdia who in the final game scored twice.”

All of CSS students were there supporting the teams and cheering them on as they brought the school another two trophies to add on their achievements. Coach Delucia was very emotional and says that he is going to miss working with all the senior, since it has been a long journey for all of them. What a great way to end the year!
